- Lanmolas

Location: Desert Palace
Effective Weapons: Sword, Bow/Arrows, Ice Rod, BombsAttacks: The Lanmolas will randomly come out of the ground. If you touch them you will be hurt. The only other thing to watch out for are the rocks that fly across the room whenever one of the worms emerges from the ground.
Novice Strategy: The Lanmolas are sand worms that attack only by coming out of the ground, flying around the room for a moment, and then returning to the ground. Their only weak point is their small head. To defeat them, watch for one to come out of the ground and then strike its head with your sword. You can tell one will appear by watching the large bulging brown spots that will appear around the room.
As soon as a Lanmola emerges from the ground, four rocks will fly across the room, one in each diagonal direction. Most of the damage you take will be from these rocks. To avoid being hit, stand to the side, above, or below the brown spots when attacking. When only one Lanmola remains, eight rocks will fly instead of four. When this happens, it is safer to stay away from the Lanmola until after he has emerged.
The Lanmolas are quick and indistinguishable. It is nearly impossible to focus all of your attacks on a single one. This fight will require a lot of patience.
Veteran Strategy: This strategy requires very precise timing and/or magic use. If you have a good aim, arrows will kill the Lanmolas faster. However, you have a very small moving target (the Lanmola’s head) that you have to hit. The advantage to this strategy is that it allows you to stay away from the Lanmolas while they emerge from the ground. This makes it easier to dodge the rocks that fly around, but harder to hit the Lanmolas themselves.
The Ice Rod is also effective, and quicker, than arrows, but it requires magic to use.
The last “veteran strategy” involves using bombs. You can drop bombs next to the brown spots. Timed appropriately, they will explode as the Lanmolas emerge. Alternatively, you could throw bombs at the Lanmolas. There is really no advantage to this approach other than you might feel pretty awesome after you successfully do it. Dropping bombs near the spots takes away the distance advantage of the Bow while still making it hard to hit the sand worms. Throwing the bombs makes it even more difficult. You also have a very limited supply of bombs at this point in the game, so you will likely end up using a different weapon before the fight is over anyway.
Other Tips:
- You will face the Lanmolas again when you reach Ganon’s Tower. The fight is exactly the same except that all three Lanmolas will shoot eight rocks instead of just the last one.
