How Do I Get There?

The Desert Palace is in the desert in south western Hyrule. To reach it, head south from Link’s House. You will be in a grassy swamp like area. From here, continue southwest until you find some lakes and a building (a water gate). From here, head west and follow the paths through the cliffs. You will emerge in the desert. From there, head northwest until you find a monument with three large turtle-like shells nearby.

Read the monument using the Book of Mudora and then watch the scene where Link makes a wish. The strange shells will then move and allow you to pass into the palace. Head north and up the stairs.

Acquiring The Map

Just north of the main room is a longer room filled with torches and enemies. In the top center of that room, guarded by two Eyegores is a pot. Defeat the Eyegores and lift the pot to reveal a switch that will make the chest containing the map appear in the room.

Acquiring The Compass

The compass is located in the room just south of the where you find the big key on the east side of the main room. You will have to pass right by the chest in order to reach the big key.

Acquiring The Big Key

You need the big key to retrieve the Power Gloves, which you need to access the second portion of the dungeon. To obtain it, find a key on a pillar in a room northwest of the main entrance (use the Pegasus Boots to knock it over). Then head east down the hall in the main room and then south (follow the path). You will come to a locked door. Use your key to open it and then defeat the enemies in the next room to open another door. Now, head north to find the chest containing the big key.
